Changes to Poster

I have been looking at the movie poster that I had created, and found that there was something missing. So I have decided to try the same poster with an added background of a landscape. This is the landscape image I will be trying out:

So to add this to the image I changed the resolution to fit the same size as the rest of the poster. I opened the image up in photoshop and went to 'image' and then 'image size' and changed the resolution to 300 pixels per inch and size of the image to 42 cm by 29cm. i then faded out the background so that it wasnt so bright. To do this I selected the landscapes layer, I then went to 'image' - 'adjustments' and then clicked on 'lightness' and dragged it to make the image lighter and faded.

I then decided to drag that image into the poster screen again opened on photoshop, the landscape image appeared and I was able to move it to the correct position. The image of the two actors however then looked to harsh against the background and the line between the background and the image was far too severe for the poster. To recify this problem I decided to add a gradiant to fade the picture into the background.

First of all I selected the picture's layer (of the two people) and then clicked on 'mask' which is at the bottom of the right hand toolbar, I then selected the masked layer, and clicked on the 'gradiant' tool in the left hand toolbar. I chose the gradiant 'Black to White' and then dragged the cursor from just below the image to half way through the picture of the two. This then gave the gradiant I need for the image to look much softer and more telling of the genre I am trying to create.

To ensure that the line between the end of the picture and the picture of the landscape was still not too harsh i moved the cast's text three spaces higher to blend the harshness into the text also.
This I feel has created a poster which is far more proffessional and far more appropriate for my genre.

I think that the landscape make the whole poster stand out more, it looks far mopre happier is more conventional of a typical romantic movie poster. For example the 'Dear John' poster that we looked at before.
